République Démocratique du Congo - Matadi
Day 159 (13 March) – Reaching Matadi, finally…
We continue on the dirt road to finally meet tarmac. We have travelled 409km in 4.5 days of driving, but we did it! We join the tar road for the last 80kms to Matadi and driving on the tarmac is so boring!! And we secretly long back for the mud.
Matadi is the port town for Kinshasa as the Livingstone Falls keep boat traffic from traveling the Congo River further upstream and there are many container trucks hauling up and down the road – which could only mean one thing: there is carnage on the raod. We barely squeek by one accident where two semi-trucks have collided, to find another overturned just around the next corner.
Day 160-162 (14-16 March) – Matadi
We spend 4 nights in Matadi just resting, cleaning, and filling up on supplies before we cross into Angola.
